Spring has sprung at the Big A

The snowy forecast notwithstanding, spring was ushered in on Tuesday with the first full day bringing the third snowstorm to New York in two weeks time.

Temperatures warmed to near 50 and above on Thursday however with most of the snow melting away.

On the track at Aqueduct, NYRA is still conducting just three racing cards each week on a Friday-Sunday schedule. And that strategy may be paying off as this Saturday NYRA was able to card 10 races, even in the absence of stakes events on the card. A total of 86 horses are entered for a cool 8.6 betting interests per race.  This marks a huge improvement over some recent days this winter when NYRA could barely fill 8 races.

With that in mind the Late Pick 4 has some wide open races and could be a lucrative payoff so we’ll take a closer look at the sequence which also includes our Saturday @NYHotList Pick 3 Special in races 7 through 9.

Race 7: (5) Lightning Buzz owns best last-race speed figure and slight forward move from that may be enough to take this race. (7) I Want Mo takes a big class drop and repeat of the maiden win two back would be nice. (4) Alexander David drops to an all-time low.  (6) Wrong Ben drops in first time for a tag.

Race 8: (4) Go Big or Go Home is in great form and enters off career best for barn that is having a great meet. (8) Cookie Crisp will need to overcome the layoff since Christmas, but that race was a huge romp and leading trainer claimed him out of that event. (3) Missle Bomb has hit the board in all three starts over the new Big A main track and one of those was a win with career-best speed figure. (5) Shadow Rider shows some back class in his PPs.

Race 9: (8) Breeze Burner is stepping up off a pair of solid efforts and wheels right back for third start off a layoff while in excellent form. May also be the lone speed here expect for one rival to his outside and repeat of last race tactics would bode well. (6) Bear Clause rebounded into form a bit last start and gets a nice weight break. (10) Ethan Hunt needed his last race and figures to be sharper. (11) Rock Doc is a likely winner with return to Belmont form.

Race 10: (9) Trinni Juice may wake up on a fast track. (3) Three Goals may be the one to beat dropping to all-time low with speed figures a cut above. (2) Carmine’s Honor drops in first time for a tag. (5) Frost Z may improve in second start while dropping in for a tag.
