With a myriad of exciting events happening between now and the end of September at Del Mar, here are some of the Del Mar Race Track event highlights you don’t want to miss out on.
San Diego Craft Beer Fest - 25 July & 29 August
The Del Mar Race Track livens up for a showcase of more than 80 craft beers from San Diego breweries from the likes of Aztec Brewery, Bagby Brewing Co, and O’Sullivan. Festival goers will enjoy live music and 7 oz. tastings for $20, and several gourmet food trucks will be available. Entrance to the festival is free with a $6 track admission fee.
The Offspring - 25 July
The internationally popular punk rock band performs at 6.30pm on the Seaside stage after the last race of the day. Entrance to the concert is free if you enter before the start of the last race.
Reggae Fest with Ziggy Marley - 1 August
Come dance to the rhythm of the reggae genre at a day festival where the Jamaican musician and leader of the band, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, headlines at 6.30pm. He will be preceded by the artists Tribal Theory, DJ Carlos Culture and The Devastators. Gourmet food trucks will provide food and beverages throughout the day.
Chili Cookoff - 8 August
At the height of summer, what better way to celebrate than with a day at the chili cookoff. From 2pm sample chili recipes from the entrants, enjoy a selection of cold beers, and pick your favorite chili recipe of the day. If you want to enter the competition, contact Red at (858) 674-0840 or email@example.com, and stand a chance to win over $2,500 in prizes. Winners advance to the 2015 World Championships.
Gourmet Food Truck Festival - 15 August
The annual Gourmet Food Truck event returns for its 5th instalment, with 50 trucks expected with the likes of The Grilled Cheese Truck, Cousins Maine Lobster, The Lime Truck, The Lobsta Truck, and Devilicious! Bring your appetite to this mouth-watering event with meals ranging from $4 - $8, and a beer garden available. Admission to the food truck area is free with a race track admission of $6 for adults. Children enter free.
Donuts Day- 15 August
This will be a firsthand look into the world of Thoroughbred racing, including free coffee, orange juice and delicious donuts. Track announcer, Trevor Denman, hosts the event which includes question-and-answer sessions with well-known jockeys and trainers while watching the horses during their morning workout session.
Kids’ activities include a meet-and-greet with Del Mar’s mascot, Pony Boy, face painting, entertainers and a chance to win prizes and a Family Fun Pack.
Paul Oakenfold - 4 September
As part of the 2015 Del Mar Summer Concert Series, world renowned English record producer and trance DJ, Paul Oakenfold, performs on the Seaside stage. Adults 18 years and older are allowed entrance, which is free as long as you enter the area before the last race of the day starts.
Party in the Paddock – 7 September
This annual end-of-season celebration returns featuring the tribute band, Wayward Sons. Come and celebrate a fantastic season of racing after the last race has finished. Entrance is free, with food and beverages available to purchase.
