Paul DeRose, better known as “Parlay Paul” around the Winners Connecticut Venues, has been handicapping on a serious basis for over 26 years, starting when he was the program host at Teletrack, back in 1987.

A graduate of the University of New Haven, with a Bachelors of Science in Communications, Magna Cum Laude, Paul was also nominated to the Alpha Chi National Honor Society for his academic achievement in 1977.  Throughout college, he served as the Sports Director for WNHU (the university of New Haven student operated radio station) and was appointed ‘broadcaster of the year’ in 1977.

Paul has held numerous positions over his 30 years with the Connecticut Off-Track Betting system and throughout it’s different ownerships.  From Audio Engineer to Assistant General Manager, Program Host, Director of Audio/Video Services and his most current position as Director of Facilities, Paul has continued on and grown his love for horse racing.

From 2001 – 2003, Paul joined with Lou Severino to host “The Winning Ticket”, a one-hour radio program, focusing on horse racing and the CT Off-Track Betting system, which aired on several different radio stations.

Paul considers handicapping to be a collaboration of ‘speed figures, jockey/trainer stats, class, pace factors, and the horses’ past performances.  Some of his most memorable horse racing moments were: Thunder Gulch’s Derby win, Arazi’s stunning move and win in the Breeders’ Cup, and Alysheba’s Derby Win.  He thoroughly enjoys the game and the mental gymnastics that each race provides in analyzing the factors that are presented and then backing up his opinion by making an informed guess.
