Jerome kicks off NY’s 2021 stakes schedule
By the New York Hot List Staff // Wednesday, December 30

A new year of racing in New York starts with a stakes that has an eye toward the future. Friday’s Jerome Stakes will be the first of four stakes that comprise New York’s road to the Kentucky Derby, and while there’s a huge difference between the first Friday in January and the first Saturday in May, it will be interesting to watch and see which 3-year-olds spark a case of Derby Fever among his connections.

Here’s the Hot List picks for the Jerome:

The $150,000 Jerome Stakes, Aqueduct, Friday, Race 8.

(2) Swill has the best resume in a small field of five. He was a competitive fourth in a Grade 2 stakes at Churchill Downs and if he can duplicate that effort, he should be able to handle this field at a one-turn mile. (3) Hold the Salsa won a $250,000 stakes for New York State-breds in his last start and seems second best in this field. (1) Capo Kane hails from Parx which has produced some good stakes runners of late and he deserves consideration in this field.
