Funny Guy is favored in the Say Florida Sandy at Aqueduct on Saturday
By the New York Hot List Staff // Thursday, January 7

Funny Guy ended 2020 with a victory on Nov. 22 at Aqueduct in a seven-furlong New York Stallion Series stake. The now 5-year-old horse, who is trained by John Terranova, will make his 2021 debut against four other New York-breds in the $100,000 Say Florida Sandy on that same track at that same distance.

“Distance-wise, it’s just right,” Terranova said. “I’m just happy to have him happy and sound and I’m looking forward to starting the season with him and having some fun. We’re certainly proud of what he accomplished last year and he’s great to be around in the barn. We’re grateful we have some nice owners behind him and that we continue to have good opportunities to run him.”

The 3-5 morning line favorite Funny Guy has three wins in five starts at Aqueduct and two victories in four tries at the seven-furlong distance. The son of Big Brown is the winner of five stakes races against state-bred company.

Here are the Hot List picks for the Say Florida Sandy:

The $100,000 Say Florida Sandy, Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 3.

(1) Funny Guy will be the favorite for his fifth race in a row. He has a great record in New York-bred stakes races in anything from short sprints to two-turn routes and has won his last two starts at today’s race distance of seven-furlongs. (2) Our Last Buck was an impressive winner of an allowance against open company at Aqueduct last month in a one-turn mile. He will bring an excellent record at the Big A to try seven-furlongs for the first time. (3) My Boy Tate has won five out of 10 starts at this New York track and four out of seven going today’s distance. He lost to the top choice by only a neck in that Nov. 22 New York Stallion Series race. Subsequently, he was fourth in the Gravesend against open company. (5) Celtic Chaos has 10 career victories and $741,000 in earnings with three of those wins coming at seven-furlongs. The gritty 8-year-old was claimed in September for $40,000 by Rudy Rodriguez and has a second in a state-bred allowance since then.
