Franklin Square tops the Saturday Aqueduct card

Franklin Square tops the Saturday Aqueduct card
By the New York Hot List Staff // Thursday, January 14

The Franklin Square Stakes is a pretty typical wintertime New York State-bred stakes. It will be contested at 6 ½ furlongs for 3-year-old fillies with a field of just six. Yet Saturday’s featured race at Aqueduct has an unusual amount of appeal as it brings together three fillies who won their last race by 5 ½ lengths or more.

Here’s the Hot List picks for the Franklin Square:

The $100,000 Franklin Square, Aqueduct, Saturday, Race 8.

(1) Vacay is unbeaten in two career starts which includes a maiden special weight at Belmont Park in October against NY-breds and then a return victory in the state-bred Key Cents by more than five-lengths. In that race, she beat Rossa Veloce who came back to win her next start in an allowance. The 6 ½ furlong distance of the Franklin Square is ideal. (4) Laobanonaprayer was the impressive winner of her last two starts in New York-bred stakes races by margins of 5 ½ and eight lengths at distances of a mile and seven-furlongs. However, she will have to cut back farther to the 6 ½ furlong distance. Trainer Danny Velazquez has had great success shipping up to the NYRA tracks with state-breds. (5) Rossa Veloce joins the list of fillies who come into this race with a win in their most recent start. Her victory came in the aforementioned allowance in December at the Big A. (3) A Life That’s Good broke her maiden last time out by more than five-lengths in a race at Aqueduct that included a third-place finisher who came back to win impressively for Todd Pletcher.
