Bridlewood Cat Seeks a Correction at Aqueduct

Bridlewood Cat Seeks a Correction at Aqueduct

Friday, March 13, 2020

If the skies stay clear a big question about the 4-year-old filly Bridlewood Cat should be answered in Saturday’s $100,00 Correction Stakes at Aqueduct.

Back on Jan. 26, Bridlewood Cat was sent off as a heavy 1-2 favorite in a second level allowance race at Aqueduct and she figured to reel off a third straight victory. But while racing on a wet, good track, she battled for the lead and wound up fourth.

She returns Saturday in the six-furlong Correction and if the track is dry, it should reveal if that last race was a sign of declining form or simply a glitch over a track she did not like.

In four starts for trainer Jonathan Thomas, Bridlewood Cat has two wins, both on fast tracks.

Helping in deciding between her dry and wet performances is that Piedi Bianchi, who won that allowance race, also returns in the Correction. That start marked the first in exactly a year for the 5-year-old mare trained by Carlos Martin.

“She came to me in excellent condition,” said Martin, who saddled the mare for the first time in the Jan. 26 race. “The filly was a little worn out after last year so the owners gave her plenty of time to recoup. (Farm trainer) Destin Heath and his crew over at WinStar Farm did an excellent job with her while she was there. I was able to nurse her back and she’s never taken a bad step for us. Her last race was a huge one off the layoff and the sheet numbers were fantastic. She’s been training forwardly, and we should see another big race out of her.”

The win was the third in 13 stars for Piedi Bianchi, a daughter of Overanalyze.

Kept True is coming off a stakes win in the Broadway, a stakes for New York State-breds. It marked her second win in three starts for trainer Leah Gyarmati.

“Last out, she ran very well. Now is as good a time as any to try and put her up against open company,” Gyarmati said. “Six (furlongs) is better than seven, although she is maturing and getting more patient, so maybe she’ll be more versatile. Right now, six furlongs is perfect.”

The rest of the field of seven includes Slimey, Sea Sparkle, I’mnotshyi’llbuy and Nisha.

First race post time at Aqueduct is 1:30 with the Correction scheduled as the eighth race on a nine-race card with a post time of approximately 5:01 p.m.
